Painting Process

1. Preparation

• Clear the Space: Remove furniture, decorations, and any items that could be in the way. Cover any remaining furnishings with drop cloths or plastic sheets to protect them from paint splatters.

• Clean the Walls: Dust and clean the walls to ensure the paint adheres properly. Use a mixture of water and a mild detergent if necessary. Patch any holes or cracks in the walls with spackling compound and sand the patches smooth when they dry.

• Remove Hardware: Take off switch plates, outlet covers, and any other hardware or fixtures attached to the walls.

• Protect Trim: Apply painter's tape to the baseboards, crown molding, and any other areas where you don't want paint to touch. Use a putty knife to ensure the tape is firmly adhered.

• Cut In: Begin by "cutting in," which means using a brush to paint the edges, corners, and areas close to the ceiling and baseboards. This allows you to create clean lines.

• Roll On Paint: Use a roller to apply paint to the larger wall surfaces. Start in one corner and work your way across and down, overlapping each pass slightly. This helps prevent visible lines and streaks.

• Apply Additional Coats: Depending on the color, type of paint, and the existing wall color, you may need multiple coats. Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next.
